Why do you see longterm emptiness?
The Buick showroom at the northeastern corner of 39th/Fauntleroy is slated to become BlueStar’s Gateway Center. The parcel immediately south across Fauntleroy is what BlueStar is working on acquiring now. The Huling Chrysler garage just south of West Seattle Montessori (plus the Montessori site) will become Harbor Properties’ “Link” with groundbreaking next year. There was a development proposal for the Huling site just south of Shell but that seems to be idle at the moment. The Hulings own a list of other scattered parcels, fwiw. The one big parcel that continues to stump me, NOT owned by the Hulings, is the former rental lot, just north of the pawn shop. That one hasn’t been in play for a while. But the emptiness you see now is what also led to the meeting I covered tonight – a chance to wholesale envision the future of a district (in this case, the Triangle area, bounded by Fauntleroy/Alaska/35th) and plan for it as a whole. This is definitely a time of transition, but some years down the line, if this groundwork pays off, it could be a really nice “gateway to West Seattle.”
