celeste17ParticipantHi all,
What does everyone think about a Forum Get Together? Since our last one was canceled I think its time to meet everyone and have a good time. What day works for everyone? I was thinking of February 8th or 15th. Should we try for Big Al’s again?
January 23, 2009 at 1:28 am #655878
CaitParticipantI’m in! February 8th would be awesome.
January 23, 2009 at 1:29 am #655879
beachdrivegirlParticipantI think House already planned one for Saturday @ Prost….
January 23, 2009 at 2:08 am #655880
JenVMemberGreat idea, Celeste. I vote for the 8th. We should get soclwrknmotion’s input on the donation aspect – I know a lot of families need help still.
I was under the impression the get together at Prost was exclusive. This forum get together is intended to be all inclusive.
January 23, 2009 at 2:22 am #655881
GenHillOneParticipantLOL, or at least guests were “defined” in an oh-so-charming way!
Great idea, Celeste – thanks for bringing it up; I can’t believe it’s almost February.
January 23, 2009 at 3:16 am #655882
JoBParticipantWe’re in…
who needs our help this time?
it can’t be shoes.. i already cleaned out everything i thought i might wear but didn’t.. and i have been banned from shoe buying since i am too optimistic about what i can wear ;~>
January 23, 2009 at 4:04 am #655883
MagpieParticipantMaybe the all inclusive could be next door at the Bohemian…that would be kind of funny. Maybe name tags could be worn and insults could be in person. Isn’t that a novel idea.
January 23, 2009 at 4:25 am #655884
pigeonmomParticipantI vote for Feb 15th and I do NOT fit thehouse’s criteria.
January 23, 2009 at 4:38 am #655885
CaitParticipantI’ve been DYING to try the Bohemian. I met Jason the kitchen dude through work and he’s a great guy. I’ve been meaning to go say hi!
January 23, 2009 at 4:43 am #655886
inactiveMemberFYI – February 7th is “Neighbor Appreciation Day”, a timely grassworks celebration brought to you by the city of Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods.
January 23, 2009 at 6:06 am #655887
LisaMParticipantAs far as who needs help, see the home page for the article about the dogs rescued from puppy mills – they need our help – and Furry Faces has a list of needs posted!
January 23, 2009 at 7:01 am #655888
JanSParticipanthey…good idea….I can do either day…and Furry Faces and the pups from the puppy mill seems like a great idea, but wondering if their need is something more immediate than 2-3 weeks away…
just don’t make it this weekend – lol…I have 16 hours of classes taking up my time :)
January 23, 2009 at 7:08 am #655889
angelescrestParticipantI have to give a rave to the Bohemian…a Friday afternoon, month and a half ago: one of the brothers (?) made up a special plate for my no-protein kid, and it was amazing! Tapenade, aioli (yep, both the kid and her mom love this stuff), veggies, gorgeous crackers, apple slices. It was really, really nice, very special, and served at an unusual hour.
Said child begs to return. We shall.
January 23, 2009 at 7:23 am #655890
FullTiltParticipantI loved the Bohemian. The only issue is, much like Prost, it is always crowded. Big Al’s has a giant up stairs living room that can be reserved, and you can bring your own food. I am really into the pot luck thing. My generation seems to have forgotten that tradition. We could also just order pizzas. Let me know what day you want to do it, and I will talk to Al. Also, they could use the business more than the Bohemian.
January 23, 2009 at 1:18 pm #655891
soclwrkrinmotnMemberSeconded on Big Al’s. The one time I tried to go to the Bohemian, I couldn’t get in. :(
January 23, 2009 at 3:13 pm #655892
TheHouseMemberI did organize a mini-meetup for tomorrow night @ Prost (7pm-???). If you want to call it exclusive simply b/c I mentioned that I don’t want it to be a whinefest of people trying to make themselves feel better or complain about how bad their situation is then so be it (the sports mention was in jest….not required). I’ll be there with a few other peeps from the Blog.
I’ll be in a black sweater with grey collar drinking Jack & Coke around 7pm. We won’t have silly nametags, we’re just going to drink and have a good time.
Anyone that wants to hang, is welcome to. Just remember, this place apparently gets packed quickly!
January 23, 2009 at 4:44 pm #655893
JoBParticipantI vote for a pot luck at Big Als…
and i think the furry faces foundation will still need help a couple of weeks from now since it sounds like they expect to discover more puppy mills that will need to be closed… which means more pups and more need.
besides.. i like helping pups…
The House…
thanks for the invite but hanging out in a bar with limitations on “appropriate conversation” just doesn’t sound like that much fun.
“This meeting would be for anyone that enjoys West Seattle, doesn’t have self pity, actually loves themselves, thinks that Capitalism isn’t such a bad idea, isn’t a victim, could care less about publicizing the good deeds they do, doesn’t want to throw a charity event for every damn person that whines loud enough for them to hear, doesn’t consider dogs/cats are equals with children, isn’t going to complain about their life situation, don’t take themselves too seriously and most importantly ENJOYS TALKING ABOUT SPORTS… “
too many judgements in that to make me comfortable… but.. thanks anyway.
January 23, 2009 at 4:59 pm #655894
TrickParticipantI’m up for Big Al’s too.
Whining about Whining doesn’t sound too enticing.
I’m all for my Captialist dollars going to Al.

inactiveMemberCan anyone provide some information for me on Furry Faces Foundation? I just checked out their website and there are no functioning links, at present anyway, about organizational goals, philosophies, etc. I certainly recognize their name from WSB and know they are located on Harbor Ave., but I sure would need to know some more about them than is currently available on their site. Anybody? Thanks.
January 23, 2009 at 6:39 pm #655896
JanSParticipantI’ll throw in another vote for Big Al’s…I love the potluck idea…(please, please, don’t let it snow – lol)
January 23, 2009 at 7:07 pm #655897
inactiveMemberI hope folks realize my inquiry about Furry Faces is not to imply anything negative about them. I just am the type of person who wants a little more background information on an organization before I will commit too much energy, time or money.
Anyway, I am going to suggest an additional option for possible fundraising, as I think animal rescue groups in Snohomish County are being inundated with assistance for the puppy mill dogs. Which is a great thing, of course.
If folks don’t want to go back to the original organizing efforts discussed before the holidays, then I’ll just throw this out there and see if there is any interest.
How about we keep the focus on West Seattle? Perhaps there is still an elementary or middle school that still has supply/book or other obtainable needs for the year? Focus on one or a couple? I don’t have one specific school in mind, nor do I have specific knowledge as to what they might need at this point in the year. But, maybe it would be worth investigating?
Maybe we could boost the morales of kids and parents who have been jerked around mightily by the School District this year. Let them know that West Seattle cares about their education even if they might believe otherwise.
Just my $.02.
Have a good weekend everyone!
January 23, 2009 at 7:15 pm #655898
SueParticipantI’d love to join in and would be fine with potluck at Al’s. I’m not free on the 8th, but could do the 15th.
January 23, 2009 at 7:22 pm #655899
ZenguyParticipantJan, bite your tongue! I will put both on the calendar.
January 23, 2009 at 7:31 pm #655900
JoBParticipantit looks like we have some consensus on Big Als and a potluck.
do we have a consensus on the date?
We can support more than one charitable cause…
i would still like to support furry faces because they are local and do local work as well as help other organizations with resources for rescues…
but i am certainly up for choosing a second. I seem to remember that Charlabob has kid’s books to donate.. so maybe we can find a local reading program?
or does someone have another local idea?
i know the food banks always need help.
January 23, 2009 at 7:39 pm #655901
inactiveMemberJoB –
Where is the background info on FF that explains how they are organized and operate as a NFP, JoB? That’s the information I am looking for and cannot find. Can you post that or PM me if you have it, please?
Thank you.
